Ghastly Gibus

What practically amounted to a Torchlight marathon from Friday night until most of Saturday left me exhausted, the only reprieve was seeing a KotH map populated in the TF2 server I frequent.  I actually love the KotH format, but it gets very few airtime in a rotation server, and the rotation server itself is not oft frequented.

The map was Harvest, quite a delight to find out that they haven’t removed it  one week post Halloween.  Special achievements were nice, but what I really wanted were the hats.  It’s a nice map, but I feel would get crowded with 32 players (I think only 10-15 were playing when I was there).  I wasn’t able to make use of the exploding pumpkins much, but I loves how a ghost can pop out in very in-opportune moments to basically render one weaponless.

Two goals, dominate a player wearing a Ghastly Gibus hat to get one of your own, or enough collect candy to earn what I assume is the Mildly Disturbing Mask.  Sadly, the server changed maps out before I was able to achieve either.  Frustration was redirected to the payload rotation server, where I got stuck in a spawn-point with a LVL2 Sentry.  Changing classes would mean destroying something I struggled to build, but then again I was stuck in a room.  With Blue Team on the way, I decided to just wait ’till they blew-up my poor defenseless defense gun.

Three kills made it worth the wait. The forth kill scored a double whammy, a Domination, and a Ghastly Gibus to call my own!  They destroyed my defenseless Sentry soon after but I managed to earn a smile, a smile one gets for realizing his dumb-luck.  That, and a new hat. ^^

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to chance upon that map again.  With 7 candies left to complete the set, I fear that another year may have to pass before a chance to steam candy presents itself.

Unless, I get lucky.
