Redirection Problem On Wordpress Upgrade to 2.5
Upon learning that there were some changed to the Admin Panel of Wordpress, I set about upgrading to version 2.5 using the upgrade instructions in Wordpress.org. Things went pretty smoothly, everything was intact in the back-end, that is, until I tried to actually visit the site.
I got a problem similar to this guy. We have the same error codes, but I don’t have any redirection whatsoever. Unfortunately, nobody has replied to him. I didn’t find any complaints just like mine, but I found something similar to the previous one here, which suggested that I try disabling canonical redirects using this plug-in.
To be honest, I couldn’t make heads or tails of my particular problem, given that I didn’t have any redirects setup, but it’s the closest solution I got. It took my a while to actually download the extremely small patch/plug-in (I kept having errors when I tried to save the thing to a file), but I eventually got it through sheer brute force.
The fact that you’re getting to read this now means that I was able to successfully insert the plug-in, and it was able to mitigate the problem. Happy that I was able to get things back in order, I tried looking for more info on the issue. It seems that it’s a fairly common problem that started in version 2.3, and it doesn’t seem addressed yet in the current version. I actually don’t remember if my last version of Wordpress was 2.2 or 2.3, but I never had the problem before.
I do hope that they fix the issue soon, it feels weird to have to use a plug-in just to get your blog working. To those of you who are considering upgrading to 2.5, please try to check out the support forums a bit, it appears that there are quite a few other problems other than the one I had, and I can’t tell if the situation is as bad as it seems with all the people asking for help.
Just to end this post in a somewhat positive note, in terms of the changes to the Admin Panel in 2.5, I personally feel it’s better (some don’t agree) and I’m quite happy with it.
