Impact of Impacted Tooth

Last Monday, I finally had my impacted tooth removed.  I wasn’t too worried, but when the dental surgeon started pumping me with anesthesia, I’d be lying if I claimed I didn’t feel uneasy.  The procedure took longer than I expected, the tooth had to be broken apart and removed in pieces ‘coz of the way it was positioned.  Still, things went well.

Of course I was in pain afterwards, but the next day, things were fine.  I was expecting things to be roughtly back to normal by today, but apparently, the extraction’s effects are only starting to kick in.  Theres a constant ache, not a lot, but its annoying.  Also, the healing, along with my weird diet due to my limited eating ability, is making me weak all around.  I feel under the weather all over, as if I’m about to get a flu (without the sniffles).

Not a show stopper, but annoying.   Even more annoying is I can’t just eat anything I want.

I hope this phase gets done soon, I want real food.

Missin’ Tokyo

As I was walking home from church, after I got away from the bustle of the malls and commercial areas, the quiet and setting seemed to remind me of Tokyo.  My SO was away, we wouldn’t be meeting tonight, and I just wasn’t in the mood for anything with heavy flavors.  I decided to indulge my current mood by going to Little Tokyo.

Given my mood, I felt that a simple bowl of tendon would be just right.  Walking in the Little Tokyo compound (beside Makati Cinema Square), I felt a surge of nostalgia.  The scents, the look, and even the crowd (practically all the customers I ran into were 日本人 (Japanese).

I selected one which had tendon in their menu.  The interior made me feel very much “at home” (when I’m in Japan).  It wasn’t fancy, but it was Japanese non-fancy, like one of the everyday places I occasionally eat dinner when I’m in Tokyo.  They were showing NBA on the TV, which was a feed from BS1.  It’s kinda funny to hear NBA in 日本語 (Nihongo) when you’re in the Philippines.

I had a good, quiet dinner by my lonesome, just like in Japan.  If I get into that kind of mood again, I’ll probably go back there.

When I got home, Animax was showing Le Chevalier D’Eon.  I’m typically not fond of old European period pieces, but I caught a glimpse of a sword fight, and it was amazing!  I’ll probably try and see more of this show just for that.

Someday, I’ll go back to Tokyo.

Dungeon Runners Chunk #1

I was never a Diablo fan.  I respect the game, and I recognize how good it is, but it just wasn’t fun for me.  Perhaps I just never got into the genre properly.  I don’t want to purchase Diablo until I’m sure that I can actually appreciate the genre properly, so I wanted to find a way to give the genre a shot.

Enter Dungeon Runners.  It’s free to play, so I can try it and see a sense of the genre.

First thing to hit me is that it was obviously made with fun in mind.  Everything seems to be of Diablo origin, but lighthearted.  From the NPCs to the items, skills, and even the manual descriptions.  Ok, so far so good, now to get into a dungeon…

Graphics are OK.  As with all “free-to-play” commercial games, some features are locked out unless some form of payment is made (in this case, the payment is an approx US$5/month subscription).  I apparently can’t stack potions (or any other items) into a single item slot (which essentially limits the difficult/deepness of the dungeons you can realistically take).  I apparently also can’t use the bank for storage.  Still, those are acceptable, since I’m not paying for anything.

Now for dungeon crawling.  I find the experience a mixed bag.  It’s obviously something I’ll only play occasionally, but there are days when I really need some brainless action.  This could fill that need quite right.

The thing that annoyed me was the lag.  this isn’t a turn based game, so lag really is a life and death issue.  Since I was in the newbie area, I didn’t have much “life or death” encounters, but I foresaw more “death” if that kind of lag keeps up.  I played a bit, but set it aside after a while.

While I was playing the last leg of Tabula Rasa’s beta, I noticed that Dungeon Runner got an update.  Curious, I read the patch notes.  Apparently, this “Chunk #1″ is quite a big update, a “subscriber only world” (no help to me), PvP (interesting), additional 2 character slots (hey, I can make a character for each class currently available) and lag fixes.  Hmmm… lag fixes….

Patch downloaded, let’s give it a shot!

I did feel the improvement.  My character was more responsive, and I felt that it was actually a bit more playable now.  Also, I can actually have a character for each class, which would let me try and see which type of game play will be more fun for me.  Given this, I think I’ll give the game a few goes in solo and see just how much I can get into it.
